[雑感035] 「英語リーディングⅡ」で紹介した曲

今期の「英語リーディングⅡ」では毎週、「歌詞を読む」ことにこだわって、Warm-upに洋楽鑑賞を行いました。そのリストとYouTubeリンク（配布・投影資料をご所望の方は個別にご連絡ください）。

1. Call Me Maybe (Carly Rae Jepsen)

ここ数年の初回はこの曲のサビを使って、ペアでDictogloss活動。”Call me”じゃなくて”Call me maybe”ってあたりとか、意外と気持ちと物語が味わえる。

2. Talk About You (MIKA)

本格的に歌詞を味わう前に耳を起動。”I said … talk about♪”、はい、なんて言ってるでしょうか。

3. Superman (Taylor Swift)

Who does the word Superman refer to? What is he like?

4. She Will Be Loved (Maroon 5)

What does the title mean? Why didn’t the author use a simpler expression like “… (Someone) will love her”?

5. Haven’t Met You Yet (Michael Bublé)

6. Wake Me Up When September Ends (Green Day)

What does the title mean? What does “when September ends” imply?

7. Lovely (Twenty One Pilots), Wonderful Life (Hurts)

Can you imagine the situations described? What is in common in these two songs?

8. Fast Car (Tracy Chapman)

What does “Fast Car” symbolize? List the characters in the lyrics with your partners.

9. The A team (Ed Sheeran)

What do you imagine from the title “The A Team”?

最初は曲だけを聴いてもらって、歌詞入りPVで確認。みんなショックを受けてました。まあ無理もない。

細かいところだけど、途中のbank notesは単に「お金」（紙幣）ですよね、たぶん。

10. Hero (Mariah Carey)

Where does a hero come from?

クリスマス直前だからAll I Want For Christmasをかけるんだろうと見せかけて、マライアはHero。しばらく重ための聞き取りも難しい曲が続いたので自信を取り戻してもらうm

11. Chasing Pavements (Adele), Say Goodbye (Chris Brown)

What does the title indicate? What is a common theme in two songs?

“Say Goodbye”はタイトルをふせて、Adeleの答えはChris Brownがくれるという流れに現実のChrisのゲス男エピソードを添えて。

12. Somebody That I Used To Know (Gotye ft. Kimbra)

Who does the title refer to? When was this song sung?

前の週の2曲はこの曲のフリみたいなもの。要するにみんな自分の視点から勝手なことを言うもんだってな話です。

13. Who Knew (P!nk)

What does the title mean? How do you translate it in Japanese?

同一テーマのTogether Again (Janet Jackson)とセットで提示しようと思ってたけど、時間の都合でJanetは断念。

14. Invisible (Hunter Hayes)

What does “invisible” mean in underlined sentences? Can you divide those into two meanings?

好き勝手に重たいメッセージの曲も取り上げたので、授業中にものすごく盛り上がったというわけではありませんが、毎週楽しみだったという感想を多くもらいました。ひとりで聴いているだけでは味わえないような洋楽鑑賞が少なからず実現できたのではないかと思います。その他、Poker Face (Lady Gaga), Shape of My Heart (Sting), Desperado (The Eagles)なんて組み合わせも考えてましたが、またの機会に。
